When not in use for any more than an hour or so, forget the various standby settings and turn the thing off…as in fully off.
Back It Up…Twice!
The most precious thing of all about any computer is of course the data it holds. Whether it’s family photos, videos, business documents or anything else of such a nature, it’s always possible that once it has disappeared from the hard drive, it is never coming back…ever. So, given the fact that backing up such files is extremely easy and cheap to do, there’s nothing to stop you making at least two backups and making sure you’re protected against all outcomes.
Establish Firewalls
If you haven’t already got a firewall in place to protect you, your family and your computer while surfing the web, you need one…period.
Keep It Orderly
And to round off, it’s impossible to overstate the importance of keeping your system as neat, orderly and uncluttered as possible. Cluttered and overcrowded disks have to work exponentially harder to perform their duties, putting a strain on resources and causing hardware issues. If you’ve a ton of clutter you need to keep hold of, back it up externally and keep your system clean.
